About me

Paging Dr. Gem
I try to pamper myself as often as possible because I mean come on, one can only take the stress of med school for so long.

Taking some time out to give myself facials, manis and pedis etc. are very crucial. It is a great relaxing tool especially after long, long days at school and especially after a long week filled with quizzes, exams, and projects.

I'm no expert by any means because sometimes my manicures look like crap but hey what can you do?

How amazing does that blue look on my feet though? Comment and let me know what you like to do to relax, and what colors you like.

Being in med school is very demanding (I know, I know some of our blogs and IG makes it look fun and easy).  I always try to at least look decent for school.

My school does not require us to dress business casual because I mean let's face it, we're on a tropical island whose temperatures are constantly in the 80s. Albeit we're not required to but it makes me feel better when I'm decently dressed for school.

I try to stay away from sweats and overly casual outfits (but sometimes laziness gets to me 🙈 )

One thing I always accessorize with are my Alex and Ani charm bracelets. If you follow me on IG, I already posted about my bracelets. My collection started when my beautiful friend Diamond gifted me with the Sacred Dove and Kings Crown for christmas and I fell in love

Fast forward 8 months later, I added 3 more to my collection. I got 2 from The Guardian Collection and 1 from the Zodiac Collection. They come with little cards that tells you what your bracelet means, what it's made of and what Alex and Ani stands for.

To me, Alex and Ani is more than a bracelet, it's the meaning and sentiment they hold. They are a constant reminder of the new beginnings I desperately needed when everything fell apart, the answers I'm always seeking, the peace I need within, the determination sensuality, and loyalty I possess as a Taurus, and the Queen that I am and always will be.
What cute are these!?!? What is your favorite thing to accessorize with?

Who else gets overly excited about the weekends? I know I do!

The thought of not having to sit in class for 8 hours, or worry about a whole lot (noticed how I didn't say nothing/anything at all) is a good feeling.

I've deemed Sundays #SelfcareSundays. I like to relax, finish any cleaning I didn't get done Saturday evening, and just take care of me. This usually involves some kind of mani/pedi combo, a nice glass of fermented grape juice (sounds more responsible that way haha), and a few episodes of whatever I need to catch up on.

Side note: My friends got me addicted to Game of Thrones and I managed to watch 6 seasons in a week, and yes that included me going to lectures, studying and everything else. SMH help needed but its so good though.

Anyways, about a year or so ago one of my friends gave me these bright almost neon nail polishes from Charming Charlie and I had only used it once and never again.

Well I figured since summer is here why not? The neon orange (can't seem to remember what it is called and the label is faded) is literally the best color against my dark skin and I received so many amazing compliments on it.

Of course I had to go all out and do the whole pedicure experience with cuticle oil, pumice stone, base coat and all that.

Products Used:

  • Seacret Cuticle Oil
  • Revlon Base Coat
  • Colormates Quick Dry Top Coat

Welcome everyone to my blog! As the name suggests, yes we will soon be hearing that name over the intercom at a hospital new you.
My name is Rubby, I am a nontraditional Caribbean med student. I am currently an MD 3 (equivalent to MS 2 back in the States). It has taken me awhile to get here but I finally decided to document my journey through med school to help people who are:
*contemplating going to med school
*interested in Caribbean schools
*need inspiration and motivation and so much more.

I will be very candid, and opened about the journey, my process, my success and my failures and everything in between. I will be talking about the beautiful island of Anguilla and all its amazing adventures, life lessons, and life's most precious gifts it's given me thus far.

So glad you joined me on this journey. If you're not already, make sure you follow me on Instagram.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
